Core Topic Research
From late spring 2020 to summer 2021, NoCo Places conducted in-depth research into a series of Core Topic issues that affect every future management decision the public land agencies may develop to handle increased traffic and outdoor recreation demand. The goal of this research was to understand key insights and trends that are important to the long-term health and management of public lands. NoCo is focused broadly on systemic change in the way these public lands are managed and specifically on finding solutions that benefit from cross-jurisdictional coordination and a regional, landscape-scale approach.
For each core topic investigation, a subgroup of NoCo members was formed to scope the topic, select and interview experts, assemble literature on the issue, and set an agenda for a full NoCo meeting. At each meeting, all NoCo participants heard presentations from panels of experts and were given the opportunity to discuss lessons learned and the applicability of each topic to different local contexts. The presentations and panels were recorded and are embedded below. Key ideas and next steps from each meeting were collected to inform the future work of NoCo.
